Gmail advanced search tips

Gmail has the most powerful search engine of all known mail box providers, it’s a fact. I defined an Outlook rule to forward all my mail correspondence directly to Gmail only because that’s the way I can search effectively afterwards.

Searching your storage while knowing the various shortcuts - may save your time dramatically and give much better results.

Let’s look at some common tasks you might be interested in:

  1. You are looking for a file attachment, which is PDF file type and came from the following email: test@test.com
    Enter this text into the search box: from:test@test.com filename:pdf
  2. You are looking for all mail traffic between two dates:
    before: yyyy/mm/dd after:yyyy/mm/dd
  3. Searching a label – label:familiy
  4. With an attachment – has:attachment
  5. Exclude some word – alex –rait
  6. Search the chat – is:chat
